vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.8 Announced!

VMworld-2014As the VMworld 2014 is in a full swing in the U.S. we are getting a lot of news and announcements from VMware and other vendors. One particular announcement that caught my eye is the announcement of vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.8. So, what do we know so far?

The new release of vCenter Site Recovery Manager delivers next-generation disaster recovery capabilities for vSphere environments.  New capabilities include:

  • 5x the scale of protection – IT organizations can set up recovery plans scalable up to 5,000 virtual machines per vCenter Server using array-based replication to enable enterprise-level protection–five times larger than with previous limits.
  • Enhanced self-service – New integrations will offer customers self-service access to provision predefined disaster recovery protection tiers to new VMs via blueprints in vCloud Automation Center when using array-based replication.

Not so much so far as but the self-service feature looks very interesting!

Also, the vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5.8 Datasheet has been updated.

If there is more news from the SRM front, I will update this post as soon as possible! 🙂

Cheers!

  1. They’ll be more details on some of the new items in Ken and Jeff’s VMworld session on the Wednesday and repeated Thursday of VMworld – “BCO2629 – Site Recovery Manager and vSphere Replication: What’s New Technical Deep Dive”

    • Yeah, too bad I’m not at VMworld in the U.S. I hope that they will repeat the session in Europe.

      Cheers!
