Day one at VMworld 2011 started nice and quiet. I arrived at 8:30, registered, received my backpack and went inside to explore the place. There were no interesting partner sessions so I decided to go straight to the Hands on Labs. Here are the labs I have completed:
- HOL01: Building Your Hybrid Cloud. “This Lab allows you to directly extend the use of a vSphere environment as an internal cloud with vCloud Director. Using a real-world scenario, you will enable multi-tenancy for internal cloud and extend limited local resources with external, standardized, vCloud offerings.”
- HOL01: Managing Your Hybrid Cloud. “The Lab Participant will be involved in an acquisition scenario that demonstrates operational synergies and costs savings of the acquisition to their shareholders while mitigating the geographical distances and therefore network latency issues. The Lab includes the adoption of a Private/Public Hybrid Cloud model, where workloads are moved into a local Public Cloud provider.”
- HOL03: Reporting on Your Hybrid Cloud. “This Lab addresses real-world needs for Cloud Administration. The Participant will have hands-on access to Cloud Administrator to gather the utilization, capacity, and billing data needed to make decisions and effectively operate your Cloud.”
- HOL05: Datacenter Migration and Disaster Recovery Protection for Your Virtual Environment. “In this Lab, the Participant leverages select VMware technologies to complete a datacenter migration. Following the migration, the Participant will configure DR protection of their primary datacenter. The participant then completes a test of their DR plan and initiates a live failover of the virtual infrastructure to a recovery site. Upon successful completion of the failover to the recovery site, the Participant validates the environment and initiates an automated failback to the primary site.”
So far, so good but I just wished we had more time to do the labs during the day. After the dinner I went to the Danish VMUG party which was held at the Penthouse in the center of Copenhagen. I have met some vGeeks that I know from twitter; @Scorpinus, @Jpiscaer and @SanderDaems. It was great to finally meet you guys!
Cheers!
